Samsung Unveils Galaxy S25 Ultra With On-Device AI Processing
Galaxy S25 Ultra Puts AI Processing in Your Pocket
Samsung Electronics has officially launched the Galaxy S25 Ultra at its Unpacked event in San Jose, California. The flagship smartphone features the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset with a custom neural processing unit (NPU) that Samsung claims can handle most AI tasks entirely on-device.
The on-device AI capability means features like real-time translation, photo enhancement, and document summarization no longer require a cloud connection. Samsung Mobile president TM Roh said the approach addresses "the number one concern consumers have about AI — privacy."
Specs and Design
The S25 Ultra features a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 3120 x 1440 resolution and an anti-reflective coating that Samsung says improves outdoor visibility by 17%. The titanium frame is 0.4mm thinner than its predecessor, and the device weighs 218 grams.
Camera hardware includes a 200-megapixel main sensor with an improved optical image stabilization system, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 12MP telephoto with 3x zoom. The AI-powered ProVisual Engine can now process Night Mode shots in under two seconds.
Galaxy AI Features Expand
New Galaxy AI capabilities include Circle to Search with video support, a writing assistant that adapts to the user's communication style, and a feature called Audio Eraser that can isolate and remove specific sounds from video recordings. Samsung says the NPU delivers 40% faster AI inference compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Battery capacity sits at 5,000 mAh with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. Samsung is quoting over 28 hours of video playback. The device ships with Android 15 and One UI 7.0, and Samsung is promising seven years of OS and security updates.
Pricing and Availability
The Galaxy S25 Ultra starts at $1,299 for the 256GB model, with 512GB and 1TB options at $1,419 and $1,659 respectively. Pre-orders are open now, with general availability set for February 7. Samsung is offering a $200 trade-in credit for Galaxy S23 series or newer devices during the pre-order window.
